Trekking
Chamonix is famed as a trekking and climbing mecca, and looming above it is Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in the Alps. There are thousands of classic day and overnight treks, as well as other more remote treks to choose from if you want to escape from the crowds. The best time of year for trekking is between June and October, as there are only small patches of snow to cross on the high passes and ridges.
Rather than sitting on my bum, waiting for you to e-mail me, why not let me inspire you to consider one of my favourite treks in the Chamonix region.
"walking with dinosaurs"
This walk explores the Emmosson region on the French - Swiss border. Above the lakes the trek leads upwards to a remote col near which are some uplifted slabs that have the tracks of dinosaurs preserved on them. It is an amazing privelige to see them, and you descend by a secluded valley.
"the glaciers of mont blanc"
We will trek up to some of the most impressive viewpoints over the glacier systems that flow down from Mont Blanc. It is an amazing experience to see blocks of ice tumbling down the icefalls or from the snouts of the glaciers. I studied glaciology at university, so can answer all those questions!
"waterfalls and alpages"
I have a few different locations to choose from for this style of walk, but my favourite has to be the Vallon Berard close to the hamlet of Le Buet in the Vallorcine Valley (translates as Valley of the Bears). You will also visit some high alpine meadows which are called alpages, to discover their ecosystems.
"bespoke trekking"
Having lived in Chamonix for a decade, I know the area very well so can guide you off the beaten track to discover regions that are totally unspoilt and remote. Let me know what you would like to see and I can design a trek specially for you, whether it is to study the glaciers, or flora and fauna. As you can guess from the website name, marmots are a favourite of mine!
"first alpine 3000m peak"
If you have always dreamed of standing atop of an alpine summit, but do not have (or do not want to have) any climbing skills, then the trekking peak of Mont Buet is a superb challenge to consider. The ascent is undertaken over a long day. From the summit you can see the whole Mont Blanc massif, the Oberland mountains, & Monte Rosa and the Matterhorn. It is a stunning panorama! I offer this trek on the majority of weekends, at a price of £99 per person (discount for groups of four or more). Contact me for further details...
